SUMMARY:
Present research was conducted to find out effects of parenting on emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents. Research suggests that parenting and family socialization experiences may enhance or hinder the individual‟s ability to deal effectively with the developmental issues of adolescents, their emotional and psychological wellbeing. By keeping this into mind present research was conducted. The main objectives of the research were
1) To analyse the total effects of positive and negative dimensions of parenting of father and mother on psychological wellbeing and emotional intelligence of adolescents.
2) To analyse separate effect of all seven positive and negative dimensions of parenting of father and mother on psychological wellbeing and emotional intelligence of adolescents.
3) To analyse correlation between emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
4) To analyse faculty and gender difference in emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
5) To analyse gender difference in parenting of father and mother of adolescents.
To analyse the objectives 3×2 factorial design was prepared. Total 240 (120 boys, 120 girls) were analysed by using Emotional Intelligence Scale, Psychological Wellbeing Scale and Multi Dimensional Parenting Scale. Adolescent boys and girls were given Emotional Intelligence and Psychological Wellbeing scale and their parents were given Multidimensional Parenting Scale consisting positive and negative dimensions. Data was collected from the different schools and colleges of Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Kadi, Kalol, Vadodara, Viramgam, Dehgam etc. Data was analysed by using SPSS software. After analysing the data collected I have reached to the following conclusions.
51
 Presence of positive parenting and absence of negative parenting of father and mother leads to the higher level of emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
 High scores of father and mother on all positive dimensions leads to high level of emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
 Low scores on negative dimensions which indicates absence of negative parenting of father and mother leads to the high level of emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
 Significant difference exists between emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
 No significant difference exists among arts, science and commerce faculty in the level of emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing of adolescents.
 Gender difference exists in the level of adolescent‟s psychological wellbeing. Female adolescents scores high on psychological wellbeing than male adolescents.
 Gender difference exists in the adolescent‟s emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence of boys is higher than girls.
 Father‟s parenting towards girls is more favourable than boys.
 Mother‟s parenting towards girls is more favourable than boys.
So I conclude that emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing are important factors of adolescent personality. Positive parenting in the adolescent age like love, encouragement, acceptance, progressivism, independency etc can lead to higher level of emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing. Children whose emotional intelligence and psychological wellbeing is poor their parent‟ counselling should be carried out to improve parenting style.
